Therefore, one tends to overlook these stains. But what most of us do not know is that these oil stains need to be treated immediately, because the more one waits, the drier and tougher it gets. If these stains are left unattended, the oil seeps into the fabric of the cloth and becomes more stubborn. Therefore, it is better to not ignore these stains and get rid of them immediately.

Is it possible to remove oil stains from clothes?

Well, yes! It is a common misconception that oil stains are untreatable and you cannot get rid of them. People tend to believe that they are permanent usually because they aren’t as easy to get rid of compared to the rest of the stains. But here we are to help you out. However stubborn the oil stain is, it is never impossible to get rid of them. Here we are sharing a few tips about the nature of oil stains and effective home remedies you can follow for the removal of oil stains from clothes.

Should we use our washing machines to remove oil stains?

Most of us wonder, how can one not get rid of them even after using the best of washing machines? Here is why. Oil is a hydrophobic liquid. In easier terms, oil and water do not go well with each other. Using only water cannot promise removal of the edible oil stains Therefore, washing machines cannot help in removing these oil stains. It takes a little science to figure out how to get oil out of garments. Oil stains cannot be removed with water-based remedies because water doesn’t combine with oil.

We must rely on the ability of absorption to get rid of those pesky oil stains. Absorption of oil from the fabric before it sets in can be done using many things. To name a few: a napkin, tissue paper, baking soda and talcum powder. These things, being absorbing in nature, soak out all the oil immediately.

A Step-by-step guide: How to remove oil stains from clothes at home with easy home remedies

STEP 1- Act immediately

It’s critical not to let the oil stain dry or settle into the fabric when you’re trying to clean it out of your clothes. You must act quickly and eliminate oil stains as soon as possible.

STEP 2- Check the care label

Before you wash your items, double-check the fabric care label. What is the maximum temperature at which the garment can be washed? Is it only for hand washing? Your clothes should have instructions on how to wash them safely on the label. If it has a dry-clean symbol, do visit a dry-clean store.

STEP 3- Analyse the stain

Fats or oils on synthetic materials that have previously been treated/washed or have been exposed to high temperatures are very difficult to remove. For such a stain, a long action of the spotting agent is necessarily followed by a cleaning cycle. This guide is perfect for fresh stains, as soon as you can after you stain them or before putting them in the laundry.

STEP 4- Choose your absorbent and scrub it on the stain

Absorbents can be used to “soak up” the oil stains. These can be used on light or new stains; these will neither damage the fabric nor any other surface and these are super easy to use. We have used talcum powder. Spread out the talcum powder on the stain generously and allow it to work. Let it soak up the oil, you will see the powder cake or become gummy.

STEP 5- Cover the stain and iron it

Lay a tissue paper on the top of the stained area. Make sure you cover the entire affected area. Press on it for a few moments and then iron the garment for a few seconds with the tissue on top of the affected area. Ensure, the steam setting in your iron is off. This will make sure the powder soaks up most of the grease or oil.
